Designs, flavours and toppings - Wedding cake decisions are REAL! We chat to Jen from Petite Crumb about a day in the life of a bespoke Wedding cake designer & how her passion became her job. Petite Crumb was born in the middle of a busy dessert service - In between blow torching the top of a brulee and calling "order up!"

"I just celebrated my second year of Petite Crumb. I truly never thought I would come this far in such a short amount of time. A highlight for me has been working with some amazing customers. It makes it all worthwhile!

The biggest highlight (literally) for me so far, would have to be purchasing my refrigerated van! I was able to say goodbye to all of those stressful car rides where I spent the entire time with windows up, air-con blasting and always worried that the buttercream would slowly be melting. It gave me the freedom to stack cakes higher and deliver them further and wider for my clients.

My original idea was a “high tea” type scenario where I would bring the whole high tea to you in your home for any kind of event. That is where the name Petite Crumb (or Small Crumb) came from… but it turns out that nothing I do is small!

I offer cake tasting boxes every 3 months which come with a selection of 7 of my best cake flavours. I encourage customers to take them home and try them with family and friends. I do not like putting pressure on anyone to decide on a flavour right away!

Wedding day: I make personalised fondant sugar cookies, which are great for wedding favours. Dessert buffets are very popular at the moment so I offer a range of brownies, macarons, tarts, doughnuts and cake pops.

I have a very feminine style and work with a lot of fresh flowers. I pride myself on using the highest quality ingredients and baking everything from scratch. Being a fully qualified pastry chef for just over 6 years I have tried and tested recipes that I know taste really great!
