Q+A: YOUR LOVE IS ART | WEDDING STYLIST MELBOURNE VIC

WEDDING STYLING & HIRE
After receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from friends and family from our own wedding, I was inspired and excited to launch YOUR LOVE IS ART - Stacey YLIA

"We launched Your Love is Art in November of 2015 after I married the man of my dreams earlier that year, who just so happened to be from a family of sign writers.

After styling and planning our own Wedding, it was safe to say I left no form of inspiration unturned to bring it all together. I collected loads of signage and stationary ideas including place cards and gifts for your guests to show my husband and see if we could make our own. From here I’m sure, I drove him a little crazy, asking him 20 times a day “Honey!! Can you make this??”... “What about this”. I fast learned that with my ideas and his resources we were a bit of a dream team.

After receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from friends and family from our own wedding, I was inspired and excited to launch YOUR LOVE IS ART. From here we got our first booking at Farm Vigano through friends, and it took off from there. Nearly 100 weddings/events later and here we are!

Insigns - Creative Signmakers are our partners in crime and help us to create anything and everything for our clients." Stacey tells.

where does your styling inspiration come from? I love spending time in the Insigns warehouse, checking out all the material and techniques they use to create their enormous commercial jobs. I’m forever driving the boys crazy asking, "Could we do this for an event… and what about that". It might look like just a factory to others but to me there’s SO many goodies to play with.

Our favourite photographers Lost in Love Photography are always shooting insanely beautiful Weddings both locally and internationally and like all of us in the industry, I’m always watching the mecca of event stylists - The Style Co. They always inspire me to go bigger and better.

tell us what things you have learnt from the hurdles that can appear working in the fast-pace Events industry: To be honest, we have been SO lucky. All our clients have been a dream to work with.

I think the biggest thing I’ve needed to learn is risk management. For example - We had some of our older range Light Up Letters booked for the stunning Myer Mural Hall. Despite it being out first time at Myer Mural Hall, it was also the first time we hired out these letters. All was well and good, but the window of set up was maybe 45mins.

Anyway we arrive, carry in the letters and in all the fuss we turn them on, and I think to myself - those globes are WAY too bright for the space. So we had 30 minutes to run around the city to find 45 globes that weren’t as strong. We ran and ran and ran… we couldn’t find them anywhere. Luckily whilst we were running about, nobody noticed and despite all of this stress, we made the executive decision to leave the strong globes in them, cross our fingers and hope for the best… Its safe to say I didn’t sleep that well that night.

BUT! When I got up the next morning I woke to the most lovely message from our Bride, saying that the Light Up Letters were amazing and stole the show. HA!! I was stressing for nothing.

Moral of the story - I learnt to be a little more prepared to help minimise the stress levels on the day and also not to put too much pressure on myself. Also, to trust myself and the work we were doing was making people happy!

The latest challenge has been time managing Part Time work, mother hood and this great little business of ours. Our daughter Evelyn is now 15 months old and YLIA gave me the creative outlet I needed when I was home bringing up our newborn and now that I’m also back at Part Time work, it’s all hands on deck. I enjoy this part of my life SO MUCH and the dream is to be set up YLIA as a Full Time venture one day VERY SOON.
what are your tips for couples who are just starting out on their search for Wedding styling & decor?
Oh that's easy… Go Pin and screen shot crazy!! Pinterest boards are by far the easiest way to collate mood boards for every part of your special day, it also helps you keep suppliers links etc all in the one place. You can share the boards with your friends and anyone you decide to work with to bring it all to life. What more do you want?? Also don’t be afraid to ask anyone questions, if you see something you like, anywhere, even on Instagram shoot them a note ask them where you can find it. They’ll be super thrilled that you reached out and so happy to help.

I always try and get my brides/clients to stick to a colour scheme and material theme. My absolute favourite material to work with right now is Gold Mirror Acrylic, I’m loving a touch of pastel colours or marble is always fun!
