How and when was NAOMI PERIS BRIDAL born? I started designing and making Bridalwear in 2009 after having been a ready to wear designer for women and men for 6 years. At the time, I had many friends getting married, and they would say to me how hard it was to find the perfect Wedding dress. So I decided to do something about it and started The Perfect Gown, which then evolved into Naomi Peris Bridal.
Tell us about what NAOMI PERIS BRIDAL can offer a Bride for their Wedding day? When I created this company, I wanted to improve the Wedding dress process that exists in the Wedding industry. I realised that Wedding dresses were so expensive and that it could take up to 12 months to order a Wedding dress from a boutique. So I created a business model that enabled Brides to design their very own Wedding dress at an affordable price, while also shortening the design and production process.
So unlike many Bridal boutiques, I only create custom made Wedding gowns. Which means that a Bride can design the Wedding dress of their dreams, and a Wedding dress will be made from scratch using their measurements. And with our streamline process, Wedding dresses are made within a small time frame of only 3-4 months from design to completion (note that Wedding gowns are ready for fittings after 2 months).
Did you always know that you wanted to design Bridal couture? The funny thing is that after I completed a Diploma of Fashion Design at the Canberra Institute of Technology, I thought I wanted to be a women's wear designer. So the first label I launched was a women's wear label in 2003. I went on to do this for 6 more years before launching into bridalwear. The irony of this story, is that I recently found old notebooks from high school and I found sketchbook after sketchbook of Wedding gowns! Turns out that I was suppose to be doing this all along.
Do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences? I always know I've designed the right dress when I see a Bride jump with glee at the since of her Wedding gown for the first time. Or when the Mother of the Bride has tears in her eyes, watching her daughter walk in the room. Designing a Wedding dress for a client is always an emotional experience, not just for the Bride, but for her Mother, her best friend, her family and of course the Groom. So when I create that dream Wedding dress, and a Bride puts in on, it evokes all that emotion in her and in her family, those are the stories that I love.
Advice: My advice would be to know your body type and your style. Understanding your body type is KEY to making a dress look perfect for your shape. And knowing your style will help the dress match your personality. These are the two biggest things that I look at when designing gowns for clients and these are key for making every Bride look STUNNING.
Do you have a personal favourite style? I love love LOVE classic gowns with a modern sophisticated twist. Gowns for people like Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, but made for women of today. Maybe this would be adding a lower back... or a slimmer skirt... while using gorgeous fabrics that would have a timeless feel.
What is the best part about what you do: The best part is definitely being a part of someones special day by designing that one special dress that they will remember forever. My clients will look back on photos of their Wedding, in decades to come, and it will be one of my Wedding gowns that they will see and remember. My mind is blown away when I think about that.
