After seventeen years in the Wedding flower industry and many tales to tell, we bring you the Q & A session with the amazing Chev from Hooked on Wedding Florals. A more colourful (literally!) career than a childhood dream of becoming a private investigator, this talented Townsville based floral designer tells all and offers priceless advice to couples starting their search for the perfect Wedding florist.

Tell us about what HOOKED ON WEDDING FLORALS offers to couples on their Wedding day: We offer all things Wedding florals of course.. ha! And yes, I work with both fresh and artificial flowers and pretty much will travel anywhere (I love a good destination Wedding) We can ship our artificial flowers Australia wide! You will have the one contact throughout the experience - me! I even personally deliver your chosen Floral designs to you on your special day when I aim to blow your expectations out of the water (fishing pun).

How and when was HOOKED ON WEDDING FLORALS born? I established my business in January 2015 and have been going strong ever since! However this year will mark 16 years since entering the flower industry (geez, that really makes me feel like a spring chicken!) The business name is my two passions combined - fishing & floral designs.

Did you always know that you wanted to be a floral designer? Uhhhh heck no! The funny story is, I wanted to leave school and start work at the age of 15, so after begging my Dad he gave in but told me I needed to find a full time job within one month otherwise he was marching me straight back to school... two weeks later I landed a traineeship in Floristry and have never looked back since!

It definitely wasn't something I saw myself doing as my career path but turns out I'm actually pretty darn good at it so I stuck with it... I actually wanted to be a private investigator. When I think about it, I guess I really have fulfilled my childhood dream of being a private investigator because I must admit, I am a pretty good Facebook stalker! (laughs)

Advice? Don't over think it and listen to what your florist is suggesting! You don't have to match the flowers to the exact colours of your chosen attire for your Bridal Party! A few tones lighter or a few tones darker will always work a treat. Don't try do to much matchy matchy... you want your flowers to speak for themselves and not be camouflaged against your dresses!

Do you have a personal favourite style? Not really... I get asked this all the time and in all honesty every weekend the style of Florals I am creating is my favourite! This industry is always changing... the style and trends only last for sometime before the next style/trend begins so it's impossible for me to have a personal favourite style because I love them all!

Tell us about the best part about what you do: I absolutely love that moment I deliver the bouquets to the Bride on the morning of her Wedding. Seeing the pure excitement and joy in their eyes then watching happy tears roll down their faces is honestly the best part about the entire process. From the first initial contact to the minute I walk through that door with your Florals - this is the moment I cherish most about every weekend, because it also means I have kicked serious goals bringing your dream Florals to life!
