how and when was MOIRA HUGHES COUTURE born? Moira Hughes Couture was born in Sydney, Australia. All the excitement of falling in love and moving across the world from London were channelled into those first MH gowns. Five years later we still love combining the feminine structures and silhouettes of Europe with the empowering, bold detailing for a modern Bride.
what can MOIRA HUGHES COUTURE offer a Bride for their Wedding day? The opportunity to feel like your absolute best self. To think back to your Wedding day and smile, to slip on something that so perfectly represents who you are at this time. That is a powerful feeling to walk down the aisle and into future married life with. We work so closely with each and every one of our Brides, our service is as personal as you can get.
did you always know that you wanted to design Bridal couture? Yes I did! It was all I ever wanted to do and there was never a ‘plan B’ so everything I had went into creating those first gowns. Even now, each thread tells a story and each collection marks a moment in time and in my life.
do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences? We have so many stories from the many Brides we meet. They are from all over the world and all walks of life. We become such an important part of our Brides lives for the year leading up to the big day which can often be an emotional time. If our walls could talk it would make an incredible book!
advice: Find a designer whose style you admire and meet them with an open mind. If they listen to what you want to achieve and are given the freedom to create, you can end up with something magical. It is easy to become overwhelmed with choice and inspiration but what really matters is the feeling you get when you slip on the perfect gown.
do you have a personal favourite style? At Moira Hughes I design for the classic, elegant and individual Bride. I love the concept of transforming a gown from day to night with a removable skirt or sleeves. Combined with a change of shoes or lipstick it can be an opportunity to define when the wedding formalities have finished and it’s time to dance the night away surrounded by all your favourite people in the world.
the best part about what you do: The best part of what I do is the people I work with. I am surrounded by an incredibly talented team who translate my designs into reality and by brides to inspire those designs everyday. To see something transform from a sketch into patterns, toiles and finished gowns is a dream. I couldn’t imagine a better way to spend my days.
