"We stumbled across the 1860’s stone stables set on 20 acres overlooking the river and it was love at first sight. Before we could establish our olive oil business we were bombarded with enquiries for Weddings and events and so the Magpies Nest was born." Hayley - Magpies Nest Wagga Wagga

how and when did MAGPIES NEST come to be?
Magpies nest was established 20 years ago by my family whilst looking for somewhere locally to establish an olive grove and processing plant to make our extra virgin olive oil. We stumbled across the 1860’s stone stables set on 20 acres overlooking the river and it was love at first sight. Before we could establish our olive oil business we were bombarded with enquiries for Weddings and events and so the Magpies Nest was born.
tell us about what MAGPIES NEST can offer a couple for their Wedding day? Set on 20 acres of wine grapes and olives the Magpies Nest’s Stone stable offers a stunning backdrop for our couples, with many photo opportunities and a stunning view out over the Murrumbidgee river and the city of Wagga Wagga. Our seasonal and regional menu offers our couples the combination of a great venue with exceptional food and service to go with it.

did you always know that you wanted to manage a Wedding + function venue? I am a true foodie at heart and love working with people. There is no better feeling than planning weddings with our couples and sign the hard work in action on the day. Sometimes I think I am more nervous than the groom waiting for the bride to arrive to walk down the aisle and the feeling at the end of the night knowing that our couple, their friends and family have had a fantastic time celebrating such an important milestone in their life.

do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences? There are so many great love stories that have started here in our little ‘love nest’ but probably my favourite and standout was a surprise Wedding to beat all others. A 30th birthday party turned engagement party turned Wedding. The Bride had arranged a 30th birthday party for herself with 50 of her friends and family whilst in secret her boyfriend and mother were planning the surprise of a lifetime for the birthday girl. He had arranged everything, a dress, bouquet, celebrant – everything.

Once guests arrived they were enjoying drinks on the terrace when he started a speech, before anyone knew what was going on he was down on one knee and proposed in front of their nearest and dearest, of course she said yes. With a photographer on site they wandered off to the vineyard to capture the moment when he popped the next question. ‘let’s do it now?’ she is the one in a million bride that said ‘yes’ and soon after they came up, she was swept off by a makeup and hair stylist that had been on standby to be primped and preened ready to walk down the aisle.

The dress he had chosen for her fit just perfectly and suited her so well, it was stunning. Whilst the ceremony took place we transformed the venue from a 30th birthday into a Wedding, replacing birthday balloons with bouquets of all her favourite blooms and exchanging a birthday cake for a Wedding cake. It was the most magical day to be a part of but also the most stressful event we have ever been a part of. One I will always remember.

advice: If you are considering a venue that is also a restaurant rather than just a function centre, book a table for dinner, test out the wine list, take note on the service and most importantly taste test the food. You can have the most wonderful venue but you need incredible food and wine served to go along with it.

Ask questions, don’t worry that what you want to ask might be silly or rude to ask, just ask. I guarantee that whatever the question we have more than likely heard it before. Take note of the answer, is the potential venue open to your ideas or rigid in what they offer? Its important to find a venue that gives you the freedom to celebrate your big day your way.

tell us about the best part about what you do: Surely it must be seeing our Brides walk down the aisle to there most loved one.
