"I like to think we have a certain style but I also work with each couple to create their individual styles as well." Natalie - Foxy Evergreen Flowers
how and when was Foxy Evergreen Flowers born? 2014 was the beginning of Foxy Evergreen, as a flower baby, I started to grow whilst growing my human baby. Looking back its not ideal to start a business when your pregnant but it’s how the cards fell for me. I was quite unhappy in my previous job and decided it was time to go out on my own, pregnant or not. I had made some great contacts in my previous 9 years in the industry & it was with the trust and encouragement from them that I gave it a go and I’m so glad I did.
what can Foxy Evergreen Flowers offer a couple for their Wedding day? We offer it all, a complete floral experience, whether it be big or small. We like to keep their Wedding planning personal, with an initial appointment to discuss everything the couple wants to achieve. But not just the floral components either, I love to hear about the linen, the stationery, the lighting. All these elements help paint a picture of what their Wedding will look like, then I can compliment with the florals. I like to think we have a certain style but I also work with each couple to create their individual styles as well.
did you always know that you wanted to be a floral designer? No way, I was going to be a tattooist when I was 14! I’ve always been very creative and into the arts, I think I just fell in love with the creativity of floristry, I knew I never wanted to be a “standard” florist making gift arrangements with teddy bears and balloons, that was never my dream. But once I picked up the snips as an apprentice back in 2005 I knew this was going to be my career. Weddings are just one very rewarding part of this career, being a big part of helping make a couples day more memorable is so exciting.
do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences? One Wedding that will forever stick out in my mind is from the early days of Foxy Evergreen. I was working with a stylist on a pretty big job and was transporting all the florals in a budget truck. I feel strangely at home behind the wheel of a truck, but this day I had a car in front slam his breaks rather than go through the amber light. Oh lordy the flowers tipped over and I thought all the table arrangements were ruined. After a massive tantrum and many tears on the side of the road, we got them all to the venue and remade/ fixed up/added to, all the ones that had been affected. At the end of the day, no one was even aware anything had happened and they looked amazing! Lesson learnt here is this : be prepared for anything that could go wrong, some things are out of your control, but if you are over prepared it wont matter. Have spares. Give yourself enough time to load a van, its surprising how long it takes!! I’ve never had another transport drama again after that day. Phew!

advice: Do some research, do lots of research of florists and their style and make sure you pair yourselves with someone that gets you and your vision. Trust your gut when you meet with them, if you think what they are offering is too good to be true it probably is. There are a lot of cheaper florists out there starting up, trying to get into the business and that’s fine, but you can’t beat experience & knowledge. That goes for all your Wedding vendors really. You don’t want to look back with regrets.
do you have a personal favourite style? Gosh I don’t know I just love sooo many styles its tough to decide. I do love the whimsical, free flowing foliages and textures, and we do a lot like this. I love texture, and colour, anything with vibrant colours is my all time fav. We tend to do things a little more unstructured.
please tell us about the best part about what you do: Meeting new people is pretty high up there. I love meeting totally loved up people with a clear vision of how they want the best day of their lives to be. I enjoyed my Wedding so much that I find myself getting invested in their days too. But I think having worked behind the scenes in my other shops, it’s nice for me to be out there in various coffee shops and venues of Melbourne chatting to new people about my passions. I love to teach as well, all the girls who work for me have different styles too so its nice to learn from them and teach them the way I like to do things too.
