How and when did PETHERS RAINFOREST RETREAT come to be? Pethers Rainforest Retreat was the vision of local couple, Peter & Heather, in early 2002. Architect designed to best compliment the rainforest surround, the Lodge and treehouses where possible, are made from locally sourced materials and provide a luxury retreat just over an hours drive from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Tell us about what PETHERS RAINFOREST RETREAT can offer a couple for their Wedding day? As an exclusive use venue, all 12 acres of subtropical rainforest are yours for use. Included in your event are ten treehouses for the wedding night, all showcasing ceiling to floor views of the rainforest as well as a double spa bath, bubbles & chocolates on arrival. Choose your ceremony in our lush orchard, stunning wedding garden or on the lodge balcony overlooking the rainforest. Each location provides stunning back drops for your special moment before enjoying your reception in Pethers Lodge. The cathedral proportions & elevated open sided fireplace allow the rainforest vista to set the scene during the day with flood lighting showcasing the best of the foliage at night.

Did you always know that you wanted to manage a Wedding + function venue? It was a happy surprise if I am honest! My first few years of Hotel Management were at a small luxury glampsite in Huskisson, on the South Coast of NSW. It was there I hosted my first wedding and absolutely fell in love with the experience. I’m still friends with the bride and groom to this day! From then on, I’ve always chosen Management roles that encompassed Weddings as they are one of my favourite parts of Hotel Management.

Do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences? My favourite story to date begins with a young man called Evan. He wandered in to Pethers reception one day looking very nervous and unsure! Evan wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Sophia in Pethers orchard but needed a little help to get it organised. Between us, Evan and I came up with a plan to set up a romantic picnic, with plush rugs, an array of cushions, a fairy light lit tepee, champagne, roses and a few yummy platters to boot. Evan pretended to Sophia they were joining us for dinner but when they arrived, their table wasn’t ready and we suggested a walk in the orchard. It was here they stumbled upon the picnic set up and Evan popped the question!

We are now very much looking forward to hosting their Wedding in June of 2019!

What advice would you offer to Nearly Weds who are just starting out on their search for the perfect venue? Follow your heart and choose a venue you love. If it reflects who you are as a couple and it speaks to you, then anyone else’s opinions are to be heard (and politely forgotten)! Getting to know our couples and understanding what brings them joy allows my team and I to personalise each Wedding. It’s seeing the way a special moment resonates with the couple and their closest friends and family that makes the hard work that goes in to each event, so very worthwhile!
