How and when was PETULA JADE HAIRSTYLING born? I have been a hairdresser for over 18 years working internationally in London, New York, Melbourne, and now back in my home town on the Gold Coast. This experience helped me build a large portfolio of clients and industry contacts as well as the management skills that I needed to start my own business ‘Petula Jade Hairstyling’, which was only born this year and has grown quicker than I could of ever imagined.
My true passion is creating Bridal hair and I couldn’t be happier as I am now able to be more creative than ever; and focus more on my own personal and business growth.
What can you offer a Bride to be for their Wedding day? I believe that creativity stems from your own personality, so I am always genuine and warm and bring my own personality and really get to know the Brides I am working with. I pride myself on my ability to listen and understand each of my Brides, which helps us to achieve the look and feel that they desire. And as any Bride will know, they have a full day (although it feels like it goes by in a flash!) so I need to make sure that not only do they look beautiful, but their hairstyle will last the duration of their special day.
Did you always know that you wanted to be a hairstylist? Yes, way back in school I would love experimenting with my hair, as well as my girlfriends (and boyfriends!) Gosh, I am secretly praying that some of those styles will never be in fashion again! Hairstyling came very naturally to me, it allowed me to be creative and I still get rush from seeing my Brides look and feel amazing.
Do you have any stories you would like to share from your experiences? Every Brides’ day is unique and special, that’s why I love what I do. I never know what the morning will bring, but one thing I know for sure is that the morning is filled with so much love and happiness, with a mix of nerves and sometimes tears, but each and every Bride has that indescribable glow.
What advice would you offer a Bride who is just starting out on their search for the perfect Bridal stylist? “Stick to your gut, follow your own path, and don’t be afraid to branch out from the ordinary” I will always try and put myself in the Brides’ shoes, or heels for that matter. I understand that most Brides will have a desired look and vision for their own Wedding day which they have perfected in their own mind for weeks, months and sometimes years beforehand so it is important to connect with everyone involved in your big day so this vision comes together and it becomes a reality. I suggest for Brides to do their research, social media (especially instagram) is a great place to have a look at stylists work and creativity. Every hair stylist has their own unique style and personality, so don’t be afraid to contact a few stylists to know who will be the best suited for that special day.
Do you have a personal favourite style? I love creating glam waves, soft buns and romantic styles. These styles seem to really help bring the feeling of love into a Bride’s look.
What is the best part about what you do? The best part is that I honestly adore what I do, it’s my true passion. I feel blessed when a Bride has chosen me to be a part of her special day and to witness the happiness on the Bride’s face is utterly heart-warming and fulfilling.
