"Not only was Sharon incredibly professional she was also great fun to have with us on such a celebratory morning." Lucie - Bride
how and when was Truly Gorgeous Brides born? Truly Gorgeous was born in 2004. I had been hairdressing for around 15yrs at this time and had recently completed a diploma in make up, it made sense to bring the 2 skills together and offer the service to UK Brides, especially as it was around that time many country houses and hotels had obtained marriage licences to be able to offer civil ceremonies.

did you always know that you wanted to be a Bridal stylist? No, I originally wanted to be a make up artist working in TV but when you tell your careers teacher this in 1986 it’s like saying “ I want to be an astronaut and work on the moon” those jobs just didn’t exist outside of the BBC and were only for those on the “inside” It was many years after gaining my original qualifications that I went down the Bridal styling path.
do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences? Every Bride dreads that something is going to ruin their Wedding day and it almost never happens… however… some years ago (again when I was in the UK) there had been terrific storms and flooding throughout the country and I lived in one of the worst hit areas. The Bride I had booked for hair and make up the next morning, thankfully only lived about 5 mins from my home (and even that was pretty treacherous to reach) but I made it there, however, most of her guests had been stranded some had been on the motorway overnight, others couldn’t get out of their homes. The fancy car she had booked to take her to the church was underwater… the whole thing was a nightmare.
Amazingly she remained completely calm and said “look as long as I can get to the church and he can get to the church and the vicar can get to the church, then nothing else really matters” …. They did all make it to the church as did many of the guests (albeit late) but, it was something of a revelation that when faced with a complete disaster at the heart of it were 2 people who wanted to commit to each other and everything and everybody else was just “extra”. I often remind Brides of this when I have someone who’s having a meltdown because the table napkins aren’t the exact same colour as the Bridesmaids shoes (Yes this has happened too!)

Ask for recommendations.
Look after your skin – This is the canvas on which your make up artist will be working so work towards getting it in the best condition for the day.
do you have a personal favourite style? I’m loving the current soft boho “undone” styles, so pretty and natural!
the best part about what you do: Without sounding like a big cheese puff, the best part is not what I do, but how I make people feel. When a Bride looks in the mirror and sees the most polished version of herself, looking exactly as she imagined ….. That’s the magic right there...
