Together for 9 years when Byron popped the question in North Burleigh & engaged for a year before Kate & Byron said their 'I Do's' in front of 90 of their most special people, including Kate's 96 year old Great Grandpa. They went on to party the night away at Babalou Kingscliff and here they share their amazing Wedding day.

How did the two of you meet? We met when we were in high school through mutual friends, via MySpace and then met up at some parties. Eventually, I got tired of waiting for Byron to ask me out and went for it myself. Luckily he said yes.

Tell us about the proposal: On top of the North Burleigh lookout with our dog, who was already exhausted after a long walk. It was a really hot day in January and I started to have my suspicions when Byron insisted we had to go up to the lookout even though I was carrying the dog by that stage. The ring was a Sapphire and diamond design that my grandfather had found and cut himself and was based on the design of one of my grandma’s rings, so it’s really special to have that connection as well.

What led you to decide on your Wedding venue? We looked at a few different venues, but Babalou in Kingscliff was the pick of them all. The whole venue was stunning and Jess the event manager was so easy to get along with and so helpful!

What was the inspiration behind your Wedding theme? We just wanted something that was relaxed and easy. I loved native flowers and Lauren from The Borrowed Nursery took my general ideas and ran with them. The florals were so beautiful!

Your most favourite moment/s of the day: Kate – For me it was probably the reception. It was so amazing to be there with all our friends and family – eating, drinking, laughing and dancing. It was also really special to have my 96 year old Great-Grandpa there.

Byron – Watching Kate walk down the aisle towards me would be my favourite moment, as well as getting around everyone at the reception.

What was your favourite detail/s about the day? Kate – I loved the flowers and my mum made four different flavours of fudge for the favours which tasted incredible!

Byron – Lauren at The Borrowed Nursery did an incredible job with all of the flowers and the table settings.

How long did it take for you to find and how was your dress/suit shopping experience overall? Kate - I knew roughly what I wanted from looking on Instagram. I ended up deciding on a new Made With Love dress called Harlie, which was one of the first I tried on. The whole team at Made With Love were great, before and after the wedding!

Byron – I found my suit and shoes at David Jones. They set me and my groomsmen up in our own dressing room and we ended up going for a navy blue suit by Joe Black.

What does marriage mean to you? Byron – It means I have to get used to having a ring on my finger.

Kate – Same for me – I love my wedding ring. Plus the honeymoon will be amazing. We’re heading to San Francisco, LA, Maui, Kauai and Honolulu over Christmas. But in all seriousness, it hasn’t really changed life for us that much. We already loved each other, now it’s just official.

Any classic stories you want to share from the day? Kate – I’m a really punctual person and accidentally arrived to the ceremony slightly early. As a result I walked down the aisle with no song playing. I didn’t even notice until someone told me afterwards. Seeing all the boys get around each other at the reception was pretty special as well.

What advice would you offer to other couples planning a Wedding? To stay relaxed and keep it simple, at the end of the day all that matters is that you love each other.

Any stand out vendors for the day? Clarah, our celebrant was absolutely amazing! She was in contact constantly before the Wedding, offering advice and answering questions. On the day, everything went smoothly with Clarah there and she was able calm all of our nerves. Ben and Kristie from Florin Lane Photography did such a fantastic job as well. We met them for an engagement shoot a couple of months before the Wedding and they put us at ease straight away. We love our photos so much! Every time we look at them they bring back all of the memories from the day.
