The name 1969 floristry is based around owner Emmah's 1969 vintage volkswagen beetle that she drives everyday and loves to pieces! It inspired her to follow her passion and Emmah still uses it to this day for local newcastle deliveries and client meetings.

"No wedding, taste or budget is ever the same just like no two couples are ever the same." Emmah Crockett - 1969 Floristry

Ever since Emmah was a young girl she always had a love for flowers, spending her time experimenting and teaching herself many ways to work with them and had started to create some pretty amazing things for her friends and families weddings. One day she decided it was time to give this passion a go and start promoting her floristry as a business and stepping into the wedding and event scene. In September 2017, 1969 Floristry was born!

Did you always know that you wanted to be a floral designer? Yes and No. I still hadn't fully decided what I wanted to invest my time in or what my career would look like until I was asked to do the florals for my brother's wedding. From that day, I had just finished installing my first of many ceremony arbors - it felt so natural and I remember looking around at all that was created and I knew I had to give this a go...

Growing up, I would always have fresh flowers in my home and constantly play around with textures, shapes and varieties and make vase arrangements around the house.

The rest as you would say is history!

What keeps you inspired along the way?
Being around like minded women in the industry. I am pretty lucky to have some amazing mentors close to me who have succeeded and are so willing to listen and share advice from their own experiences and thoughts.

I am a very visual person so just immersing myself in my local flower market - there is something so wonderful about sipping a coffee and just looking at all these fresh blooms straight from the farm - sitting there, waiting to have something beautiful created with them - that I would say is my favourite of all inspiration methods!

Do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences?
There are so many little stories along the way - every wedding and event is so unique and with it comes experiencing some pretty amazing people. My favourite is to hear how people have met, what their lives are like and what colours and styles they love! It's these that I love and what keeps me going!

Advice:
Gather as much inspiration and pictures as you can! They don't have to be just of flowers - they can be of a tree you passed and liked the leaf shape or the colour of, you may have some material that you love the colour or texture of. Anything that gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling and you know you want that represented on your special day, then note it down. Florists have a way of immersing that feeling into the flowers they work with.

The other would be to go with a florist you love the work of and trust. Fresh flowers are living things and we can't guarantee that shade of burgundy is going to be the exact same as your table linens but if you trust your florist - they will have the ability to substitute anything necessary and make it more beautiful than you ever imagined.

What is your own personal favorite style?
If I had to try and put it into words, my personal style I feel is unstructured, colour blocked and quirky. I like to experiment with colour and come up with combinations that haven't been seen before!
