HOW DID THE TWO OF YOU MEET?
Lance & I were neighbours, I was 16 and he was 24 when we moved in next door to each other. Lance had a 1 year old son and I had a boyfriend at the time so I really wasn’t interested in him, I just saw him as my daggy neighbour (sorry Lance). A couple of years later we realised that we had a strange connection even though we had nothing in common. We fought like brother and sister and I thought he was just so annoying. I would always tell him I didn’t like him and pretty much tease him all the time. It wasn’t until nearly 3 years of knowing Lance that it actually clicked and I realised that I was in love with him.

Lance & I were together 8 years before we got engaged. We lived together for 7 years and owned our house together for 4 years. When we met we both never really liked the idea of marriage, we didn’t see it as a necessity. We shared a wonderful life together, co-raised Lance’s son Bailey together from him being 3 years to now nearly 13, we own our house together, his family is mine and mine is his. In 2016 we decided to get married but agreed to do it our way, no fuss. I knew that Lance went ring shopping with my sister but I didn’t know he had actually bought one. Two years later Lance proposed to me in the most unexpected moment on the most cliche night of the year (valentines day!!) but I would not have it any other way

I’m not one to usually like Valentine’s Day or to celebrate it, not for any reason, I’d just prefer to stay in and watch a movie with snacks. Lance on the other hand loves the idea of a romantic dinner. We compromise and some years we stay in and other years we go out to dinner. Lance really wanted to go to dinner so we booked in at a Thai restaurant and got seated at a cosy table surrounded by lots of other couples on valentines dates. Lance was sweating and was a bit flushed but I thought he was maybe feeling a little off or just hot because the tables were all so close together, I didn’t think much more of it. We had a drink while we were waiting for our meals and I suggested that we go for a walk around the lake after dinner for something to do.
Lance loved this idea and suddenly stopped sweating, he was more relaxed and again I didn’t really think anything of it. After dinner I was super full and told Lance I didn’t want to go for a walk anymore. Lance insisted that nope we were definitely going to the lake which looking back now I really should’ve have seen that as a sign since he isn’t normally a pushy person.
When we got to the lake Lance told me he loved me very much, I said I loved him too and he replied with “well since you are still in love with me, will you marry me?” I was in shock I couldn’t believe it, I laughed and realised why he had been so sweaty at dinner (haha) and obviously I said yes. Lance now has a reason to take me out to dinner every Valentine’s Day and I now love telling the story of our Valentine’s Day proposal, while it’s cliche to some it is so very special to us...
