"The way Bizzaro started is quite a story. Many people assume that Mary and I (Dimmy) are sisters or somehow related. The truth is that prior to launching Bizzaro we didn’t know each other at all. It was by chance that we met through a mutual acquaintance and after a brief chat thought it would be fun to get together to create an evening and bridal range.

We began working together on the collection and it quickly became apparent that we had similar work ethics and our design ideas complimented one another... simply put, we made a pretty darn good team! For the first several months we operated from a renovated garage before relocating in 1991 to our Earlwood studio/boutique.

Within hours of opening our studio/boutique we sold our first wedding gown, a beautiful blush pink and ivory strapless French ribbon lace ball gown... and as the saying goes, the rest is history!

Fast forward almost 3 decades on and we have a wonderful team working with us, Mary & I are not only business partners but we share a sister like bond, and are lucky enough to still love what we do & feel blessed to have such a wonderful career. What can BIZZARO BRIDAL COUTURE offer a Bride to-be for their Wedding day? We offer brides professional and honest advice on anything from dress design to the smallest of wedding details. At Bizzaro Bridal Couture a bride will find her dream dress in way of a custom made wedding gown individually designed to compliment her silhouette and personality. Designer veils, capes, jewellery and accessories are also available to complete her wedding day look.

Did you always know that you wanted to design Bridal couture? I have been obsessed with fashion design for as long as I can remember, evening wear in particular! After school I would go to my parents deli and quickly find myself spending hours at a fabric store across the road dreaming up designs as I went through all the beautiful rolls of fabrics on display. I hand crafted many engagement gowns for my earlier clients who then had me create their wedding gowns. I made my first wedding gown at the age of 19, pre Bizzaro. That experience gave us both the stepping stone to specialise in wedding gowns. Bizzaro Bridal Couture has been our creative outlet, our dream job and a place to do what we love year after year.

One of the sweetest of stories we want to share is how two lovely three and four year old little girls who wore custom made Bizzaro flower girl dresses returned to Bizzaro decades later to become Bizzaro Brides themselves!

Having that one on one rapport with our brides and seeing her dream gown come to fruition is the best. Knowing that you have been a part of their special day and have made them feel beautiful and the best version of themselves is our favourite part about what we do.

What advice would you offer to a Bride to be? Establish a theme for your wedding and then create a mood board of ideas and inspirational images, on your phone is fine! This will help set the direction for all your wedding day choices from venue to flowers and everything in between. Be sure to show this to all your vendors and share your vision with them. The most beautiful weddings come together through good planning and a strong vision.

Personal favourite design? I love so many of the silhouettes often seen in bridal. However, I tend to gravitate towards classic styles which feature beautiful laces or bead work and are timeless in design. | words by dimmy
