I started out making cakes for friends and family, about one cake every two months was enough for me back then .. I didn’t even actually intend for it to grow into anything substantial or sustainable, let alone successful cake business, but, here we are and I couldn’t be happier that I unexpectedly discovered this little hidden talent." Adrienne tells.
What Cakes by Adrienne offer a couple for their Wedding day?
I am pretty relaxed, and I think that comes across during my time spent liaising with my wedding clients. I have a very relaxed approach to design, flavour selections and really just strive to help my clients feel like organising their wedding cake is an easy and enjoyable experience. I am completely open to flavour combinations from clients and don’t have any particular flavour options or combinations, I just go with clients recommendations and run with it. As far as the design of my cakes go, I work completely free flow with the flowers/foliage that I have in front of me when it comes to decorating on the day. It's a much more natural design approach for me, and while I understand it might not work for everyone, I feel like I get the best results when I work that way. Most importantly, I want clients to feel 110% confident in my skills and to trust that I will make them a beautiful cake for them to look back on with fond and happy memories. That really is what it's all about for me.
Do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences?
I have SO many stories I could fill this section with, but one of my favourites would have to be my best friends wedding last year. She got married in Port Macquarie, (which is about six hours drive from where I live!) so I packed up (what felt like) my entire kitchen into the boot of my car. Got all the way there and realised I had left my Kitchen Aid at home! I nearly cried! How was I supposed to mix up buttercream without it?! LUCKILY the Mother of the Groom came to the rescue with her beloved Kenwood from the next town over THANK GOD! Anyway, having the opportunity to make my best friends wedding cake was just so special. I am so blessed to be able to do things like that, I just really do feel so lucky.
Advice:
Take your time, don’t stress and don’t settle for anything less than what you really want/love. Weddings are stressful enough to organise as they are, if you can find vendors who can ease that stress for you a little, well, that’s a no brainer.
Do you have a prediction for any upcoming 2020 wedding cake styles?
There are so many amazing styles and design trends floating around at the moment, I think its hard to pin point what will take hold. I do, however, think that brides are becoming more and more willing to look outside the “traditional” wedding box and are often opting for styles, concepts and colour schemes that are more unique, abstract and fun, which I am over the moon about! So I think that that’s my prediction for 2020, cakes that turn "conventional" ideas on their head and produce more unique and personalised wedding cakes that compliment and suit the individuality of every Bride and Groom.
What's the best part about what you do:
This is the easiest question by far to answer! For me, the best part of being able to create wedding cakes for couples is just the pure happiness and fulfilment that comes along with being able to be just a tiny part of their special day, a small cog in big wheel of something very special that will have lifelong significance. Its knowing I have the ability to create something that brings warmth and happiness to people and something special for my couples to look back on with fondness of their dream day.
