Moving to Cairns with her husband via the N.T when their first daughter was 6 months old, "I wanted to be able to have the flexibility of working from home with my bub, so Nine Blooms was created." Starting very small with a few weddings a season, Gabrielle has cultivated her own small business to grow out not up. "My main focus has always been on the highest quality of service + quality of product." Gabrielle tells.
Nine Blooms also provides a very close relationship with couples in regards to the customer service they receive. I’ve been told on many occasions that clients feel like they are the only one that is being looked after during their time with me, that makes me feel like I’m doing something right.
My main focus as always been to make sure the client has been heard and understood and that we are both on the exact same page the entire way through their time with me. This is the kind of service that I personally enjoy so I like to make sure I’m offering that to my clients.
Do you have any stories that you would like to share from your experiences?
Being semi remote operating in Far North Queensland, it can be a challenge to obtain the florals that I love to use. But luckily over the years, I have managed to secure some amazing suppliers in Brisbane + Victoria for my cooler climate blooms and I always use my local guys for the tropical blooms and foliage’s which we have in crazy abundance here.
I will also say that almost every client that I work with will tell me they chose a destination wedding to hopefully cull some guests numbers, but their plans get foiled as all the guests decide to attend anyway! Who doesn’t love to attend a destination wedding + have a mini holiday at the same time in the tropics!
What advice would you offer to Nearly Weds who haven't chosen their perfect wedding florals yet?
The first advice I would offer would be to hone in on your preferred style. Really ask yourself what speaks to you, what you envisage holding and seeing all around you on your day. Do you have a fave bloom or colour tone that rocks your boat? Do certain textures work better for you? Are you a big and bold lover, or simple & minimal is your bag? Dig deep and that way you will be satisfied with your choices, and not rethink everything.
What also helps is getting inspo from other sources. Check out Pinterest, Instagram and look at the florists’ work in the area or region you are getting married in to see if their floral vibe works for you. Save your fave pics and you’ll start to notice a pattern hopefully that will steer you in the right direction.
Also, think about what amount you feel comfy spending on your florals, and try to be flexible about what you can obtain with your budget. I totally understand that clients haven’t ordered wedding florals ever before in their lives, so will likely not know how much things cost, but having open and honest conversations with their chosen designer about what is obtainable within their budget is always prudent.
I’m loving on the whites and neutrals, dried botanics and texture overload at the moment, so I’m hoping we can morph into more of those styles for the 2020 season. The romantic design styles are always a fave too, think old school vessels, big billowy designs…so that an exciting style to see evolving.
Plus installations are on the rise, and I couldn’t be happier about that!
Tell us about the best part about what you do:
The absolute best best best part about what I do is arriving up at a client’s hotel room with her bouquets. My heart will ALWAYS beat a mile a minute, and I will blame the stairs I just climbed or my lack of getting to the gym, but it really is just the nerves and excitement of bringing their floral vision to life, and presenting it to them. I’m not gonna lie, when there is tears, I know I’ve aced the brief.
Once everything is set up and I’m on my way home, I will have such a full heart and I always feel super blessed about playing a part in someone’s big day. It’s been 11 years in my little business and that feeling has never abated…and I’m glad about that.
