Situated beachfront in the small seaside town of Kingscliff in Northern NSW, Taverna is a much-loved restaurant wedding venue best known for its authentic Mediterranean-inspired menu, unique cocktail options and quaint white and mint facade. With award-winning food, an extensive wine list and a totally Instagrammable location, we reckon Taverna is a pretty perfect wedding venue for non-traditionalists.

For close to a decade, we had our eyes on the little cottage on the south side of Kingscliff; across the road from a majestic Moreton Bay Fig and the squeaky-soft sands of North Coast NSW. Late 2016, the opportunity finally arose and we swiftly snapped it up, transforming the venue into a charming eatery that could’ve been plucked straight from the dreamy Cycladic Islands.

Our Executive Chef (and Co-owner) is of Greek heritage, and it was on the postcard-perfect island of Santorini she and her husband were engaged and later married. Greek culture and the country’s philosophy for simple and healthy food is engrained into us, so you could say Taverna is a dream come true for the tight-knit team.

These days, we are lucky enough to have some truly unique spaces available for couples looking to plan a less traditional celebration. So if the thought of a traditional venue just isn’t your style, why not consider a “non-wedding” wedding venue as an alternative?

Did you always know that you wanted to manage a Wedding + function venue?
Nope – in fact Taverna started, and still runs predominantly as an Award winning Restaurant. We were continually getting asked “why don’t you do weddings”? We thought to ourselves – “why don’t we do weddings”? So without having any good reasons not to – we started to do them… And People have been enjoying the Taverna Wedding Experience ever since.

What advice would you offer to Nearly Weds who are just starting out on their search for the perfect venue?
If you are dreaming of the big white wedding – then go for it! But if it’s something that you are struggling with the idea of all the things that comes with the big wedding, maybe think about what makes you and your partner tick? Is it being outdoors, going to the beach, or entertaining with food and wine? Whatever it is, let your wedding reflect what is important to you both.

Seeing two people and their families joining to become one. Knowing that these people will be spending a lifetime catching up over Births, Other Weddings, Birthday’s, Christmas’ etc…
